Art Access Gallery Opening of "Portraits From Madison Avenue"
Wet Plate Collodion by Quinn Jacobson - March 17, 2006
I had a wonderful, and very successful opening last night at Art Access in Salt Lake City. Contrary to rational thinking, downtown Salt Lake has a thriving art community and it's supported (surprise) well. There are a lot of great artists there too. I'm proud and pleased to be a part of it.
Anyway, here are some images from last night. I will be putting together a video too. I'll post it at a later time. I had some great offers last night and this may have opened some exciting and interesting directions for me and my work. |

Art Access is a gallery that looks wonderful at night. It lured all kinds
of people in to see the work.

Kerby was a "star" last night and enjoyed it very much. "Can I get a
photo you next to your plates?" He posed all night. He had a lot of
people asking him about his "suicide" photographs. He did a great job
and we had a wonderful time.

Since it was a solo show, I had the back gallery setup with some of my gear and my
DVD looping. It was a big hit. I couldn't believe how many people commented to me
about the video and the "technical" info/equipment (the 10 steps of wet plate on the
wall)- very educational and I believe it added to the fine art work in the main gallery.

Watching Dusty's interview. Dusty wasn't able to attend because he had some
teeth pulled the previous day. I was a little bummed about that, but I'll take him
down sometime over the coming weeks to see the show.

People started showing up at 5:30PM and was steady until 9:30PM. I was totally
blown away. A very humbling experience for me.

This is what the gallery looked like for the majority of the four hours. It would
load up then thin then load up... exciting stuff. Questions, offers, interest, how
could an artist ask for more??

Pierpont Avenue (Art Access) - the "art district" downtown. Freaks, artists, and
good times to be had by all.

Although it was raining and we were competing with St. Paddy parties, the
crowd was constant and interested...

I was amazed by the response I got from the large ink jet prints I had up - they
both pulled people in from outside and they made people ask a lot of questions
about the process and the project.

Wanna-be filmmaker, Quinn Jacobson, does an interview with Kerby and a fan
of his "suicide" photos, Lori.

Lori and Kerby talk about the photos.

The Jacobsons, post show - as the gallery was closing.

Quinn Jacobson, one happy, exhausted camper, ..umm, I mean, artist.
